Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in helping? First complete a volunteer application and background check. This is a standard, precautionary measure for everyone to ensure each person representing New Haven Adams Township Parks & Recreation is safe to be around children.

Every volunteer will be held accountable, just as an employee would be to his or her place of employment. Once the details are taken care of, you will be connected with an employee who is in charge of the area you are interested in volunteering. That person will help to coordinate your efforts, keep track of your hours, and assist you in any way you may need.

Volunteer Application Form

Adopt a Park
Our parks are open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. From April to September, volunteers are encouraged to adopt a park and keep it a clean, safe place to be. The scope of duties includes picking up trash, planting flowers, and weeding.

Adopt a Flower Bed
New Haven parks have many flower beds. Adopt one and make it your own! Responsibilities include planting flowers, watering, and weeding. Let your creativity and green thumb shine!

Nature Center Special Exhibits Assistant
Those who have artistic, native gardening, or building skills are invited to help us make signs, murals, exhibits, and other improvements to the nature center. Call us to discuss how we may pair your abilities with our needs!

Public Relations
The Moser Park Nature Center and the Parks and Recreation Department need some help in getting the word out about all of the educational and enrichment programs we offer to the public. We invite those with experience in marketing or program development to assist us. Individuals who are willing to pass out fliers and put up posters could also help us reach a wider audience.

Natural Resource Management
Individuals and groups, even large ones, can make a great difference to the natural appeal of our parks. These projects involve removing invasive plant species, which means getting “down and dirty” with the potential of poison ivy, bugs, and hot weather. Some projects are more involved than others. There is a big payoff for your hard work in knowing you have helped improve habitat for native plants and animals.

Tree Board Commission
If you have a passion for trees and would like to see the city’s street trees and park trees properly cared for, then we would like to hear from you. Please fill out a volunteer application and send it to us.

We will review your application once we receive it. You will be contacted to discuss upcoming vacancies. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community.

New Haven Community Foundation
Through the New Haven Community Foundation Fund, you can give your support to the community your love and invest in its success. The funds will be allocated to projects that promote art and cultural enrichment, youth programming, and parks in the community.

Great Tree Canopy Comeback
Always on the first Saturday in November, this event is New Haven’s Arbor Day Event. Trees are planted with the help of volunteers. This is done to assist in combating the critical loss of urban tree canopy due to weather, disease, and development.

Breakfast With Santa
This event takes place in December at the Park Center. We usually need 4 people for this: 2 Santa’s helpers and 2 ticket takers. Dress appropriately.
